2015 Run Across Maryland 5k
Saturday September 19th
Recovery Awareness 5k Run
The Recovery Awareness 5K is a for profit event that will be held in Hancock, MD on September 26th, 2015. This event is being held to raise awareness for the growing heroin and prescription opiate addiction problem in the surrounding area. The money raised at the 5k will be used to help fund the Brooke's House, a drug treatment facility that is being built in memory of Brooke Simmers, a local young woman who recently died from an opiate overdose in April 2015. With the coordination and support of the Hancock Police Department, the goal of the Recovery Awareness 5K is to provide education and understanding of this growing epidemic, as well as raise money for an excellent cause that is strongly needed.
The 5K will be a walk or run, and runners of walkers of all ages and experience level are encouraged to participate. This will also be a dog-friendly event, where runners or walkers can also bring their favorite canine to participate with them for a small fee of $5.
